AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

I've had my eye on these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DS18B20-Waterproof-Temperature-Sensor-for-Arduino-UK-Seller-/322461235769 for a future project. Another job for the Pi 😂

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

@wildebus From this image if we look at the time period between 11:30 to just after 14:00 the sun is strong enough to keep the battery over 89% so the inverter is enabled for this period. At about 90% SOC the MPPT charger would normally be in Absorption or Float mode but we can see it goes to...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

@wildebus Hopefully this gives some idea of fridge duty cycle, I would be interested to see equivalent for a 240V compressor fridge. Image shows Leisure Battery volts from BMV, when volts are low inverter is running fridge, high inverter off. That's the best i can do at present I'm afraid...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

At this moment the RPi is reading data from all devices over USB or communicating with more distant devices via Arduino over WiFi. For example, when it's time to turn the Inverter on it tells the Arduino which enables a relay. The relays contacts operate the Phoenix via its Remote connection...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

I hope to be working in the van tomorrow, I'll have a look if I get time. Our Thetford is an N3150, we usually run it on setting "1" which is the lowest (less cold), "5" being the highest (most cold) so one would assume it uses minimum power. At setting "1" our fridge is at around +6 to +7*C...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

As an update to my Thetford 3-way Fridge Freezer running from a Victron 12/500 Phoenix pure sine inverter powered from a Varta 95Ah AGM battery. With the fridge in auto mode it favours 230v AC over LPG. There is 400 watts of solar panel (2 x 150W and 1 x 100W) and the peak over the 5 days was...

    B2B input cable size

I would say 25mm2 is fine. The lead that runs from the Starter Batter to the B2B should be fuse as close to the Starter Battery as possible. On our Fiat the fuses lives in the Starter Battery box, it can't get any closer.

    Fitting immersion heater

Motor controllers can create noise (electrical) as they don't switch at the zero crossing point and yes may upset an inverter. One option is to try removing alternate AC cycles which effectively halves the power. If I remember correctly the Victron 12/500 peaks at 900W but mean power would be...

    Fitting immersion heater

Our Motorhome has a Truma blown air/water (240V & or gas) heater, I'm considering having the option to run the water heating element at half or third power. Our inverter isn't large enough for full power and I really want to use spare solar energy. If the solar can heat the water even by a few...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

There was only one inverter, had to be Victron. Arduino clone and a relay board, control of Arduino is two way over MQTT from RPi.

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

I use the RPi which is doing all logging and gives the GUI, the Pi talks to an Arduino which happens to be sat near the Inverter. The Pi does the logic and send instructions to the Arduino which has a relay attached and operates the inverters remote. The Arduino has only been measuring Leisure...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

Just finalising control of my 3-Way Thetford fridge freezer. The idea is, when the AGM battery is charging from solar and the Victron MPPT goes into Absorption or Float mode the inverter can be enabled. The fridge then switches from gas to inverter thus saving me gas. Should the MPPT switch to...

    30 or 15 amp

I find this quite useful as it gives current rating for different conditions (like the amount of cooling). Not many consider that a wire buried in the middle of a loom can't dissipate much heat, something we always had to considered in aircraft systems...

AC Fridge In Campervan -.Power Consumption Test

Thanks for info, so approximately 4.8 Watts. Victron quote for the 12/500 Phoenix in ECO mode 1 Watt! I haven't checked it myself. So to power a thermostatically controlled fridge which may only run for 12 minutes in an hour the next 48 minutes are spent consuming/wasting, in this example 3.8...

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

What < 7 means is that if the signal level is less than 7 volts it is read as a logic zero or False in Boolean What > 7 means is that if the signal level is greater than 7 volts it is read as a logic one or True in Boolean You can find on the internet many tutorial which will explain and give...

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

For me there is some clarification from Margreet Leeftink of Victron into the L and H pin, I read this as a change of state detected at > or < 7V. https://community.victronenergy.com/questions/49423/orion-smart-engine-switch.html

Split Chargers - B2B & Relays: Which one - or Both?

To me I just thought, when the BMV's relay is de-energised the Orion's "L" pin is tied to ground, when the relay is energised what state is the "L" pin in now? It isn't tied to ground and it isn't pulled high. Now I don't know what is inside the Orion but what state does the Orion read the "L"...
