I found six inch nails to be a great paranoia guard squirrel. Phil Bent flat after inserting that is, too much chance of them slipping out of the roof otherwise 😄

    Solar install

Dave you guys screw and glue anyway apparently so double jeopardy if you wish to upgrade your panels.😜Phil P.s There are only 60 minutes in an hour Dave so shall we say an hour or so not in minutes , that's if you take prep time in to account😄

    Solar install

Oh and by the way lads, do not foster the idea of re using your old stuck on panel mounting if you decide to upgrade your panel as most panels are of a different size and will not fit your old panel mounts and you will have to use a multitool or copious amounts of cheese wire to remove them and...

    Solar install

I think what is needed here is knowledge in the fact that modern glues far surpasses the requirement to keep the solar panel onto of a van roof at 100 mph. The major conclusion is are you adept at deciding if your paint work is up to the challenge. If you have no idea then glue and screw, if you...

Just goes to show how strong adhesive is if all air is expelled between two surfaces. Then sets and noway can air then reenter the joint😁

But a test of strength which ever way you count science 😆. Yes yes I know "but it's only as strong as paint adhesion" That is where intelligence becomes essential and where the right decision is of paramount importance. Phil

    Solar install

Oh Dave, if someone only sticks a solar panel on something like your example then they have no right building a motorhome, of course there has to be a certain amount of intelligence required when attempting any sort of project. I think that I will personally leave this discussion at that. Phil

    Solar install

I really do understand the panick situation that some of our members are under with this problem of glue or screw or maybe even glue AND screw, I have been involved with the motor trade for longer than I would like to admit to, yes if you have a Red coloured van with lacquer or a van with...

    Solar install

Exactly, my point great engineers in their time, but then labour was cheap and so was material, it's time to move on as has the rest of this world. We now have even greater inventors and engineers in this country but their achievements are not as obviously in our face as with the Victorians but...

    Solar install

Although I have great respect for Victorian engineering, it was of the time, I'm certain that Victorian engineering would never have been able to put a man on the moon or explore space as we have, times are a changing and always will, one has to put your faith in modern technology or stay in the...

    Solar install

Dave I defy anyone to come over to my van and remove my sat dome or solar panel without totally destroying the dome mountings or the solar panel and mounting. Believe me after a few discussions of this kind I have been out and on the roof and attempted to pull either off and have stopped short...

None the less most if not all professional fitters glue solar panels on, and have done for many many years, if it was that bad there would have been a D.O.T notice about it by now. Phil.

    Solar install

Phil as for the front screen I agree that it is not under the kind of potential wind pressure that a solar panel is under, however side windows that are stuck on are both subject to gravity as well as wind lifting pressure and if you have ever fitted one yourself you would have seen/felt just...

I might add that a certain amount has come from Southern Ireland, who to all intents and purposes are as Britannia as we are even if they will not admit to it. Phil

Is Anyone Using RV Repair Club ?

Not unfortunately at all Dave just one of my foibles that the correct word is used in the "English" language, I can not stand any Americanised english it grates on my understanding, and after all is said and done, some of the most astounding science about space has been by true British...

    Gas underslung after 6 years.

I had retired and sold the garage when I built this one, I managed on the ground by running the front wheels up on ramps and jacking up the rear onto axle stands, it was tight and uncomfortable at times but was fairly easy, I also fitted the waste and fresh water tanks at the same time. Phil.
