When you say you re earthed it, are you saying that there was a short to earth then?

Ok change the fuse and get your multi meter and check the slate wire with it, disconnect all lights, if poss cut the slate wire close...

If it's blown a fuse it must be earthing out between the unit and the lights I'd have thought.
