American RV on EBay

Was on EBAY for around £8K a while back and seller did not sell it
Relisted now at starting bid of £4.5K
I quite like it, what do other folk think of the Van ?

I seriously would really love an RV like that, but I think the Fuel costs would be prohibitive and many roads unavailable
(Would this be under 7.5t GVW?)

As a comparison, I took this photo last weekend of a similar US RV next to the iconic VW Camper - shows how different in size they are!

Hi David

Not sure if it is under the 7.5T limit, could ask the seller

I might do anyway, I will need somewhere to live in a couple of years when house is sold and Sylvia is not big enough for that.
As it is Petrol it could be ripe for an LPG conversion and as large could probably get tanks to fuel 500 mile range or so at a guess
If anyone is interested in LPG Conversions then Andy's Autogas in the Wirral is THE PLACE IMO as the guy is super knowledgeable and also reasonably priced.
There are even some pictures of Sylvia when he was converting her on his Facebook Page Here

Cheers
Robert

I would think there is enough real estate space on the roof to have solar panels big enough to be self sufficient for at least half the year (y)

American Driving Licenses don't seem to have weight or towing limits on them so I think they tend to be on the heavy side? It could well be within the 7.5t limit if downplated :)

If all the fittings work and it easily passes an mot then it is worth £4500 my thoughts would be where can you park/camp in it ?
The van is around 2.5 hours drive from my location.
As far as Parking goes that would be a hard one for me and I would have to try and get somewhere to park here within a couple of miles of where I live and pay for it (another consideration)

I guess in terms of "Wildcamping" it would be anyone's guess as to where you could pull up and stay for the night!!

If you have somewhere to "live in it" you could get a really nice static caravan for that money and a 2 bedroom 36x12 static would be excellent.

I personally think that they are so impractical that I wouldn't even consider one, a) As Dave says fuel economy and B) The roads in the UK count it as a real no no, plus you need a parking place to keep it when not sweating as to how your going to squeeze it through the eye of a needle. 😳 Phil

Yup. If I were doing "vanlife" in the US, an old A-Class (Class A?) like those would likely be top of the list, but UK/Europe ... Just too big :(

If you were only going to use it to tour Europe then OK just as long as it was converted to LPG, but for using in the UK..... forget it.

Static Caravan might be the go in a few years as a "base" as I am thinking that a cost-effective base plus a decent van will be a large part of my future accommodation arrangements.

The Bounder is a lot bigger RV than the one in the add , it is very likely already been downplated to 7.5 ton as that is what most gas engined RV s are sold into that market , the FREDs or pushers are usually full HGV licence as they can weigh over 7.5 unladen . The bigger RVs are a a bit restrictive , on site access , or road suitability , but the one in the add is much less of a problem . I used to own a RV (largest allowed on UK roads) , so am well aware of down sides, the fuel consumption on the one in add is around 12mpg , but majority operate on LPG , which makes them a lot more economic in the long run , the fuel consumption , even on petrol is a factor only if you move around a lot . The thing to watch on these vehicles is damp , especially if roof hasn't been looked after . They are ideal for a semi mobile living experience tho . JMHO

I asked the seller and he said the RV on EBay could be driven on a Pre 1997 license
I passed my test in 1989 and it says "You can drive vehicles weighing between 3,500 and 7,500kg"

So I guess I could drive the American one on EBAY. Not sure what "FREDs or pushers" means ??

Thanks
Robert

FRED = Front engine Diesel
Pusher = Rear engined vehicle Diesels almost exclusively only know of one rear engine petrol model ever built . :)

I guess it is a matter of just applying common sense and realising you can't go down little country lanes in a big vehicle.

What's the phrase? "Go Big or Go Home"? Why not "Go Big AND BE Home" :D

I have looked at this video and some of his trips -

On going to it now to get the link, I see it is also for sale - https://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/details.html?id=278350930 (just 175,000€ mind)
