  1. Favourite 3 tools

Track saw for cutting sheet materials. I should have bought one to begin with as a jigsaw is hard work.
  2. DVLHey

Shouldn’t even be an issue as motor caravans are defined in the Road Traffic Act. What allows the DVLA make up their own rules?
  3. Spray foam insulation.

I tried stick pins. Useless. The “great one“ is not always right and can be very defensive.
  4. mb2tv MH Design

I made mine from Ikea slats and B&Q 60mm cls. It’s cheap, plenty strong and can be removed for daily van use. Because I have a shorter van I made it with interlocking slats. It can be halved in size by pushing it backwards during the day or could also be pushed forward to give a bigger boot...
  5. LPG/butane gas hob

The burner caps are often screwed down but the pan supports are removable for cleaning, or to stop them rattling when on the move.
  6. Drawer fronts, latches, runners, and handles.

Avoid the cheap hafele push button copies on ebay. When put on a left hand door they are marginal. If turned upside down and put on a right hand door they don’t work at all.
  7. LPG/butane gas hob

Agreed the domestic domino hobs take up little space and are certainly less expensive than smev/dometic. However, I thought the burners were too close together for large pans and ended up putting two single dometic burners side by side. Be aware though, they are quite deep to install.
  8. Vent Windows

There is usually a black border round the edge of a bonded window. I stuck velcro to this and used the silver bubble foil type stuff on top. A complete blackout and hardly any condensation, especially with heavy curtains.
  9. Water tank, anyone used this company?

+1 for wydale, really good quality. Unlike the fiamma tanks it is possible to cut holes anywhere and get an easy seal.
  10. To grease or not to grease!

My van was ex lease and the rollers were heavily greased. I took it all off and the door worked much better. You can get kits to replace rollers/bearings etc.
  11. Foam for pull out bed

Depends how much you are being quoted but I bought an Ikea Malfors and took the foam out and cut it into 6 pieces with a bread knife. Got them covered professionally though, that was beyond me and the only job outsourced.
