RCD wiring diagram

Hi Im not sure about wiring a RCD unit .I want to fit a wall monted fan heater, interior light and double socket.
I know I might not be able to run all of these together but want them all wired in . A diagham would be useful.

I would suggest you need a small consumer unit with three circuits, the unit should have a master RCD and each circuit should have its own RCD. Probably 15 amps for socket and heater circuits and five amps for lighting. Generally on campsites you are unlikely to get a supply greater than 16amps in total! So a 20 amp RCD as a master should be adequate. If it is a fixed heater you could have a smaller RCD, 1kw is about 4.5 amps. I would question why you want lighting as I would assume if you are on hookup you will, ideally, have a charger set to automatically charge your vehicle and leisure batteries in which case use the habitation lights, one less mains circuit to mess about with!

if you search on the web for RCD wiring diagram you will find any number.

Schubert You need a 3 or 4 way consumer unit with a 45A, 30mA RCD Main switch, you will need 3 MCB breakers to go in the unit a 5A one for your lights and either 2 x 10A ( one for the socket and the other for the wall heater ) you could go to 16A if needs but remember most hook ups are 10A or 16A at the most. The hook up cable shoud come via the Mains Inlet socket to the 30mA Main Switch

Alf is correct. An RCD only protects against earth leakage, it does not protect against over current. Thus each circuit requires a current limiting circuit breaker.

The device that covers both earth leakage and over current is known as an RCBO which would be appropriate if we were dealing with a single circuit.

The choice of RCD current rating does not really matter as long as it is more than the sum of the total current that can be drawn on a hook up i.e. 16 amp so you can quite happily use say an 80 amp RCD the important part being that it must be 30Ma (let availability and price guide you) Do not buy fit a 100Ma unit!
