Handy Update for Victron Venus & Multiplus Users :)

If you have a Victron "Smart" product such as a SmartSolar MPPT, BlueSmart Mains Charger, BMV-712 Battery Monitor and various other ones, including devices connected using a VE.Direct Bluetooth Dongle, you will be familiar with the device updating the firmware via Bluetooth when you connect via the Victron Connect App.
This is a great (if not always convenient!) feature to keep the products up-to-date.

If you use a Venus OS Product such as a CCGX, Venus GX, Cerbo GX or even a Raspberry Pi running the Venus OS, you can update the firmware of any of VE.Direct products - such as again the BMV, MPPT, some Phoenix Inverters - via the VRM.
But ... this firmware update is limited to VE.Direct kit and to update the VE.Bus devices such as the Multipluses and big inverters you need to plug them into your Windows based computer via a special "MK3 Dongle" which costs around £70 and has little use for VRM users other than firmware updated :(
Until now that is! Victron have in the last week or so just released an Venus OS update that allows you to do firmware updates to Multipluses and Quattros :D
I have not yet tried this but will probably have a go this weekend. After all, what's the worst that can happen (apart from 'bricking' a £1,000 Blue box  )

Certain minimum hardware limits apply so have a look at this page - https://www.victronenergy.com/live/venus-os:remote_ve.bus_firmware_updates
And remember .... This post is just giving you info about a change Victron have made. It is up to you what you do with this info.

Well, just tried this and failed on step 1 :(
The Cerbo won't update to 2.65 (the version you need to do the above). The Raspberry Pi updated fine (tried that first just to check it was ok to update! hah!).
