I need to wire my solar panel but i havent done it this way before so i need advice please. On the pic the numbers are as follows:
#1 Ground -ve to chassis

#2 12v from leisure battery

#3 12v form leisure battery when ign on

#4 12v from vehicle battery fused 15amp (merc fuse 18amp)

This panel is just behind the passenger seat and the leisure battery sits under the passenger seat. My question is? Can i attach the -ve from solar regulator to number 1?
And do i connect +ve to one of the spare fuses, or to number 2?

Last time i fitted my solar i did it straight to battery so this is new for me and im not sure if i can do it this way any help is much appreciated thanks!!

Sorry Daisy I can't help as I've wired mine through regulator direct to batteries, Try giving techno100 a pm.

i would seriously consider getting a regulator, how big is your panel

FULL TIMER

the wires from the regulator to the leisure battery should be as short a run as possible so in an ideal world connected straight to the battery with an inline fuse of correct size in the positive wire . but if need be if your number 1 is grounded to the chassis and also has a cable from the leisure battery negative post connected there then it should be ok for you to connect the negative wire from the regulator to, and as you say your number 2 is wired direct to leisure battery positive again this should be ok to connect your positive wire from the regulator to but I would advise fitting an inline fuse of correct size. I also think you are supposed to connect the regulator to the leisure battery before connecting the wires from the panel,

I just love this self build idea....Get a problem and have to solve it...lol Well i finally fitted my panel and decided that i would wire it as i thought i should. For it not to work..duh...Then spent ages thinking coz im a bit of a novice i must have wired it wrong to the 12v system, after long debate an head scratching and testing of wires with multimeter (even learning how to use one of these..lol) I finally realised it was a simple problem of an mc4 connector malfunction, Correction made, something else learned, and a happier me for solving it..!! Oh I love all this..!!

wont not having a regulator really put you at risk - IF there's a strong amount of sunshine, couldn't it over charge the battery and also if there isn't a diode to prevent a reverse loss of current ?

The panel is wired into a regulator, I had wired up the solar panel before on my old bambi but i wired to the leisure that time, this time i was wiring via a 12v fuse board and thats what i wasnt sure of...
