My project is a recently purchased 8M coach built 2005 Iveco 75E17 horsebox conversion. Intended for extended periods away around Europe, north and south , 2/3 berth with full kitchen and a small motorcycle workshop in the rear. I am an Industrial JIB sparks of 45 years but intend to buy a ready made kit mostly comprising Victron kit ,simply to save on cable calcs and head scratching
. It has a 24V alternator , and there will be a big solar array too, so the first big decision is which would be best ? 24V batteries with a 12V stepdown trany for all the 12v kit ( the vast majority of kit will be 12V with very occasional 230V use ) , Or a dc2dc charger with a 12V battery storage system ? . Batteries will be Lifepo4.
And my next choice is size of battery bank ? . the truck will be gas heating for air and water and cooking. leaving 20 odd LED lights , a medium size fridge, 3 fans, 2 fresh water pumps, intruder /fire/co2 alarm, hifi, laptop and phone charging, all off 12V. It would be ideal to have enough capacity to cover for a few cloudy days in winter before running the engine for charge .
Seeing as I have a blank canvas i would like to get it right first time
All ideas and input , pros & cons much appreciated.
