2002 Mercedes 814 d crew cab Luton back just bought for conversion, electrics query?

Dean77

Hello all,
Just joined and just got a 2002 Mercedes 814d vario with a crew cab and a big Luton back, want to convert it into a modular camper so everything can be removed when needed for a job. I am going to start with the electrics, it currently has 2 X 12 volt batteries under the seat in series so 24 v and I would much appreciate any advice on how to sort a leisure battery. Do I need it to be 12 or 24 volt?, do I need a step down thingy? and an inverter? Which one is best?
I am new at this but vaguely handy on the tools and very determined.
Any advice, much appreciated, and hope you are all enjoying the weather,
All the best
Dean

you'll need a stepdown, these can be expensive, and your LBs should be 12v as all your lights and appliances will be mainly 12v .as for an inverter, i have one and never use it . SBMCC is a good source of knowledge for these things
