  1. Mixing Solar panels

Rough reckoning; the diodes will lose you about 4w all the time purely by the standing voltage drop and if you didn’t fit them you would save about 4w when one panel is shaded...
  2. Mixing Solar panels

So that fits with what I put, it would drop a few tens of mA if one panel was shaded. How much is the drop across the diode again?
  3. Mixing Solar panels

To be honest I don’t understand the role of the blocking diode? A solar panel is like one big diode in itself, any back feed through it is going to be in the 10’s of mA at best (worse!). A shaded panel, whilst not producing much in the way of power will during daylight hours still have a...
  4. Mixing Solar panels

I’m assuming your 50w panels are 18.3v and 2.9A and you PU 150w panels are 20.2v and 7.43A. The 50w pair in series would be 36.6v @2.9A. The 150 pair would be 40.4v @7.43A. in parallel together it would be 36.6v x 10.33A = 378w Therefore by my reckoning with that series parallel configuration...
  5. Bargain Victron B2B!

    Missed this, he who snoozes....
  6. Finished build

    Very nice 👍

  8. 'Chinese' Diesel Heater

Trivia I know but Iron starts to radiate light at the red end of the spectrum at around 400c.... pretty hot
  9. Victron BMV Battery Monitor - Peukert Exponent

Yep busy writing before you’d edited your response. As you say the test conditions are the unknown and your adjustment of the value fits with what you are seeing as the resultant. Slam dunk empirical evidence, Cannot argue with that. Thanks for taking the time anyway, btw did you offload that...
  10. Victron BMV Battery Monitor - Peukert Exponent

Sorry for the confusion using terms such as battery life and efficiency, I just thought that made it simpler in layman’s terms. the nearer to unity the peukert constant is the lower the ‘loses’ are hence my use of ‘efficiency’ as the descriptor for it to be able to deliver more of its stored...
  11. Victron BMV Battery Monitor - Peukert Exponent

Slightly confused by the results. My understanding was the nearer to unity (1) the Pk value was the greater the efficiency hence battery longer battery life? I realise it’s more complicated than that, just the results seem to be the opposite to what I would have expected?
  12. Protecting Lithium batteries from charging at low temperature.

Silly question, does too low a temp just prevent charging? I’m presuming you can still draw current from them?
