    Solar packed in

I've been saying for years that unless your roof paint is peeling off in droves, gluing them on is all that is necessary. As you have found out removing something that has been glued on can be an absolute nightmare. Your statement is the first time that I can remember someone actually confirming...

    Solar packed in

Phill, I really do feel that there is too much thought gone into this, I personally think that solar panels that are mounted on the roof of a panel van and subject to vibration/ judder are more down to quality of construction and luck that the guy manufacturing the panel/ quality controller had...

    Solar packed in

Probably best as mine only had the one bad connection, but with multiple problems you could be chasing rainbows 😜. Phil

    Solar packed in

Are you sure its rust. 2 years ago I had the same problem where my panel was not charging at its max rate, when I went up and checked I also saw what looked like rust stains under the glass, I then realised that it couldn't be rust as I believe the conductors are tin plated copper, looking at...

Ducato 2.3 multijet cam belt change

As my van is approaching 4.5 years old even though it's only done 29 thousand I decided to change the cam belt. I retired from the motor trade back in 2000 so I had never changed this particular type of cam belt, the Fiat time for this is 4hrs. I have to say that a fair amount of trepidation...

    Ceiling going up

Looks good, One thing I would suggest is weight, be very careful over weight. One of the things that tends to be forgotten in self build vans is weight, in the past weight in a motorhome was not really worried about but the continental police, especially the French have been recently stopping...

    Per hour?

I really don't understand this complaining about the excessive gas that 3 ways apparently use. I have had gas fridges for the last 25 years or so and have never thought that their gas use was over the top, indeed the burner flame is minuscule in comparison to the flame of a gas heater. I think...

    Camper tyres

You will find that all the big converting companies use the commercial tyres as supplied by the manufacturers especially Fiat who use Vanco on their Ducato's. I continued to use Vanco tyres as supplied (And my van is on the cusp of 3.5tons)which have performed well over the last 4 years. Why pay...

    Software Update

I quite agree I can't stand Americanised english, other things that really annoy me are descriptive words they use like "Hood" "Gas" and trunk other automotive descriptions, like "Gear shifter" and the way they say ( le ver age ) instead of leverage, I've noticed recently that commentator's...

    2017ducato towbar wiring

Could be that the main feed wire to the brake lights and side lights is live constantly and the brake light works when the bulb is earthed by applying the brake pedal and conversely the side lights are earthed when side light switch is turned on. A bit like a series parallel circuit. Phil

to hear (deaf old f???). Geoff. Same here Geoff the buzzer is a bit superfluous in my case but drives everyone else mad if I'm stationary with the indicators going. 😄. Phil

    Now here's a funny thing

I think that some of the big American RV's have at least a 1mtr height difference and I'm fairly certain I read somewhere over the years that Shureflo pumps are good for 3mtr head 🙄 but certainly 1 mtr should be no problem I would have thought. Phil Thinking about it my shower head is at least...

    Now here's a funny thing

What is your reason for the difference in pipe diameter? I have always used 10mm through out without a problem in hot or cold delivery. I think both answers given so far have merit in so much as if the pump cycles it must be building pressure in the hot system to turn the pump off and on. How...

    Deep Red

Very sad to hear, I had a fair bit of email contact with Ian 4 or 5 years ago, he was always very helpful with his suggestions and ideas, a great loss to the self build community. Phil

    Different fresh water systems

I have never used an expansion tank Alan and never had a problem, in fact I bought one for my latest van build which was about four years ago and ended up giving it to someone on the DIY site. I think it would make a difference if the water pipe installation was of excessive length but for the...

    Different fresh water systems

I would just add Geoff that with a pressurised system you can use any type of household tap as opposed to having to use a specific electronically switched tap in a unpressurised system which invariably stops working and the switch requires replacing at the most inconvenient time. Phil

    Am i missing something ?

Marvelous to have the choice of three different means of working though, and have yet to have a problem of levelling with modern absorption fridge plus with an under slung you would have to be at such an acute angle for liquid propane to be a problem you would need climbing tackle to move about...

    Am i missing something ?

Thats my point in my post I said that in Italy it reached 38 deg and higher in sheltered spots and my absorption fridge worked faultlessly with out the use of any fans. In my self build with my absorption fridge again I've been in some horrendous tempretures in France and again it performs...
