You are correct, it would only be used for a short time. I was hoping to run it to a T piece; one going to the shower and the other going to the kitchen sink. The roof vent in the kitchen area would be open and so would the window, the shower room roof vent would be open as well.

Yes Gerry it's coming out of the exhaust on the combustion side of the heater.

Good point I might whip out the glow pug first just to see what condition that's in, if it's coked up will pull the heater apart

I've now had the heating right up and brought it back down, still the same smell recurs. It runs fine but a bit smelly; put it this way I would not like to be parked next to me. Another observation. If you start the heater and run it at 10C there is a horrid smell from the exhaust that isn't there when you run it at a higher temperature. My conclusion is fuel is not being burnt off properly so to overcome this problem I thought I would start it up at 20C and run it...

I was running it at 20C but now I've linked up the key fob I can drop the temperature easily. Prior to setting up the key fob, resetting the temperature was a lot of faffing about.

Now this is just a thought..... I was told that on old diesel engines some owners used to put a small amount of petrol in the tank to clean the engine, would this be feasible on these heaters? As I said, just a thought, don't shoot me down in flames.
