Resealing Van - The Restoration Revisited

A conversation I had with a self builder. I was admiring his workmanship and as the conversation moved on he said "'cause it's aright for you, you've got a jelly mould" I think that's a term of endearment for a monocoque fiberglass body. Just made me think why do I have a jelly mould? Looked at...

Gas Combi Boilers, who's got one...???

You are correct, it would only be used for a short time. I was hoping to run it to a T piece; one going to the shower and the other going to the kitchen sink. The roof vent in the kitchen area would be open and so would the window, the shower room roof vent would be open as well.

    Diesel Heater On All Night

For peace of mind I decided to remove the inlet pipe, just to make sure there was no blockage. While it was off I thought it would be a good idea to remove the silencer to see if shortening the induction would have any effect and if there was any difference in the noise. Ready to go back...

    Diesel Heater On All Night

Decided to have a quick look inside, replace the filter and replace the glow plug. To be honest with you, there doesn't seem to be an issue; both the glow plug and the filter are very clean. Being as I had the spares, I thought I would change them anyway. It's now all back together and I...

    Diesel Heater On All Night

Good point I might whip out the glow pug first just to see what condition that's in, if it's coked up will pull the heater apart

    Diesel Heater On All Night

I've now had the heating right up and brought it back down, still the same smell recurs. It runs fine but a bit smelly; put it this way I would not like to be parked next to me. Tomorrow, in the daylight, I will look to see if there is any black smoke or put a pipe on the end and see if there is...

    Diesel Heater On All Night

Another observation. If you start the heater and run it at 10C there is a horrid smell from the exhaust that isn't there when you run it at a higher temperature. My conclusion is fuel is not being burnt off properly so to overcome this problem I thought I would start it up at 20C and run it...

    Diesel Heater On All Night

Fabulous night out; nice and warn sitting in the van but a bit blowy outside, turned the heating down to 10C before we went to bed. In the morning van still nice and warm, didn't need to turn up the heat. So I think I can safely say the heater is now working and no owners were harmed in this...

    Diesel Heater On All Night

I was running it at 20C but now I've linked up the key fob I can drop the temperature easily. Prior to setting up the key fob, resetting the temperature was a lot of faffing about.

    'Chinese' Diesel Heater

This afternoon was spent trying to get the split timer to work. Put in the time we wanted it to come on, yes, that bit worked, put in the time to go off, it was having non of it: straight to the next time to start. OK, if that's the way it's going to play, I changed the control panel; that was...

    'Chinese' Diesel Heater

Now this is just a thought..... I was told that on old diesel engines some owners used to put a small amount of petrol in the tank to clean the engine, would this be feasible on these heaters? As I said, just a thought, don't shoot me down in flames.

    'Chinese' Diesel Heater

When I made the foam filter I did think about using a paper air filter as it would be easier to monitor; as you could see the discolouration of the filter. The foam filter I chose to use is a free flowing type and when cleaning the van I can go over it with the vacuum cleaner as there is a...
