    Custom Campervan Stolen/Theft

Having just had my campervan conversion stolen from a London street after 4 months of hard work, I would just like to remind the community how common place theft of campervans/motorhomes is and how important it is to take all measures possible to prevent theft especially if you park the vehicle...

    Electric blanket when wild camping

I can recommend the electrowarmth.com 12V electric blanket which is very high quality and draws about 80W I think. It has a variable heat control but it pulses at 80W for different lengths of time instead reducing the output to a lower wattage. I use this under my topper mattress and provides...

Enable Factory Cruise Control on Ford Transit Mk8

Cruise control is great on a long journey but not all Ford Transit Mk8 have it fitted as standard so its useful to know that the factory option can be enabled on a standard van with the addition of a steering wheel and enabling the options in the backend. The first step is to buy a used...

    Change of website name, Maybe...

Personally I use this site to share and learn about van building and I dont relate to vanlife as I dont live in a van and hopefully never will unless Truss stays in power for a decade, so I much prefer motorhomebuilder although campervanbuilder would also be a good name.

    Ford Transit Mk8 Adventure Van

Long post explaining the build with photos below. After toying with the idea of doing a LoLoader conversion I settled on a standard panel van conversion on a modern base vehicle for ease of ownership and reliability and I need a Euro 6 for the low emissions zone. My aim was to build a...

Skylight Hinge Repair (Dometic Seitz Heki)

I installed a Dometic Seitz Heki 2 in my campervan roof which is great for light and fresh air but the build quality of these units is terrible, probably to keep the weight down, and after a few months and a few scrapes on low hanging trees the hinges snapped. The hinges are one piece plastic...

    Skylight/Window replacement

This is an old post but in case someone else looking for similar, a boat hatch like a Lewmar would work well on a campervan as they are built to be tough and water tight, have excellent seal for winter climate, many sizes available at a reasonable cost and much better build quality than any of...

High Mileage Ford Transit 350 Euro 6 Van Conversion

Yes buying new is almost the same cost as 2nd hand recent models but there is a long wait due to factory closures. If I was buying new I think I would go for a MAN high roof which is based on the Crafter but just looks cooler. If you do a good quality conversion a new vehicle will probably...

High Mileage Ford Transit 350 Euro 6 Van Conversion

Agreed its a lot of money but thats what the market is paying based on what on the factors above, the next nearest thing would be £5k more for Cat S repair job and 30k miles but L2 not L3 so will have to wait for the L3H3 Auto, reasonable mileage combo. Damn that peasky low emissions zone but at...

Gas Combi Boilers, who's got one...???

I like the idea of a DIY 12V water heater and storage tank, a good DIY example here: https://www.outsidenomad.com/campervan-hot-water-heater/ and 12V 200W water heat example here https://www.grasshopperleisure.co.uk/elgena-kb3-12v-water-heater---200w-element-30092-p.asp No idea how effective...

Low loader box van camper conversion

Not two stored but I am looking to get a low loader with 2.5M internal height to allow room for drop down beds and plenty of headroom underneath. The standard internal height for most of them is 2.2M which isnt quite enough for tall people + floor & roof insulation + bed frame and mattress...

    expedition vehicle aluminum windows

but why go with Seitz windows, just because they are MH specific windows or because everyone else does and thats the safe option? For the money Seitz and GRP units are almost the same but the grp units are much more substantial, perhaps the weight factor is why people stick to MH plastic models.

    expedition vehicle aluminum windows

here's another manufacturer in Doncaster UK https://www.motorcraftadventuredevelopments.com/premium-windows sounds like they have more demand than they can handle prices look better too, I guess the budget depends how many windows you want and how important the look and function are but...

    expedition vehicle aluminum windows

found them https://www.ew3.de/ they do appear to be pretty similar to residential UPVC windows so think im going to investigate that option as I never liked the MH plastic windows. I guess weight and vibration are two key factors to consider and those expedition vehicles can probably afford the...

    expedition vehicle aluminum windows

does anyone know the brand of these windows commonly used in expedition overland vehicles like those built by https://slrvexpedition.com.au/ they have a flush finish with wide frame surround and look much more sturdy then standard MH windows and suspect they are glass not plastic. They have a...
