In Europe, the usual way to buy cable is using the Metric System.
In the USA, they invariably use the AWG (American Wiring Gauge) system
The linked resource on the "Download" button goes to a Cable Conversion Table from AWG to Metric to help work out the cable size recommended if using Cable Sizing Resources from the US such as the Blue Sea Wizard (http://circuitwizard.bluesea.com/)
To use, round the converted Metric size to the commonly available size e.g. AWG 5 = Metric 16.8mm2 - so you would use 16mm2
