If you have diesel heater where would you fit your diesel pump inside campervan / motorhome or outside?

Outside using a suitable one of these....

Correct mounting of the pump can be critical to how much noise it makes (and transmits through the body of the vehicle)

Especially with a chinglese copy where the pump never shuts off unlike a genuine eberspacher where the pump only runs WHEN the heater is calling for heating.

Huh? don't understand that comment. When the heater is running it is because it is heating. You turn it off if no heating required (there is no thermostatic control on the chinese ones). A different way of working compared to the Eberspachers.
(if you want thermostatic control you need to add a separate external control box).

I simply meant that you can leave an eberspacher running on a low temp setting and it will only run the pump when it's actually heating as called for by the thermostat....

The chinglese ones I've come accross the pump runs all the time the heater is switched on even on its minimum setting....

Not an issue when it's in my greenhouse as its only to provide a base Heat for the seedlings...
In a motorhome the pump will always be running even with the heater set at its minimum setting.

And Yes I'm fully aware that it can be overcome by spending £100 or so on a afterburner controller....

not taking about an afterburner ..... I used a £10 temp controller .....
(£12.99 now :( I paid £8.99 at the time - https://amzn.to/324oy1g )

Also added a SMS Remote Control to allow the user to send a text to turn the heater on and off via their phone - £25 I think that cost plus a Giff-Gaff SIM ....

How did you manage to configure the temp controller to control the heater?

Never used but looks like there is simple switch on / off to configure. Certainly will work out of the shelf with Webasto and Eberspachers
See diagram below

AFAIK If you just shut the power off to eberspachers they don't run their correct cool down procedure and you risk issues with glow plugs/screens and possible cracked combustion chamber...
So what do you switch to allow the run down procedure?

yup. that is correct for all the heaters - Eberspacher, Webasto and the Chinese jobbies. Simply cutting the power is a big no-no. You need to initiate the shutdown command

I don't mean cutting your heater of the power while running rather switching off.
do you have your heater wiring diagram to look at?

Not for the chinglese one....
I know the Eber is 12v from the controller for on and 0v for off then the ECU initiates the start/close down procedure
BUT that's already got a thermostat on it.

I'd guess there is a wiring diagram etc online for the chinglese ones somewhere.

Disclaimer :) I never touched diesel heater in real life.

After quick research, I come up with some idea.
Using phone temperature app to control diesel heater on and off switch.

Requirements:

1. Phone app
2. GSM Module connected to heater control unit.

Phone app monitors temperature of campervan and at certain degree either make call or sms to your GSM module to activate diesel heater.
In practice no too sure if it would work smoothly enough.

Anyway I found couple of videos below wiring GSM module to diesel control unit.
That gives you idea how to wire temp controller of amazon.
Sorry I cant be of any more help, I am LPG enthusiast atm :)

I have an Eberspacher and I just turn the stat down to 12 degrees at night when it’s cold, my pump is mounted in the engine bay and it does tick but I find that quite soothing. I it starts to cold down and I don’t hear the tick then I know it’s time to top up with diesel 😂

Can't a old temp thermostat feed the fuel pump ? I'm fitting mine this week from Wednesday. But not out of box yet.

If you cut supply to the fuel pump it'll likely cause the heater to go into fault as it won't be able to perform its cool down run (and start up run come to that)

It's entirely possible that you could (if they run the same as eberspachers) use the external stat to interrupt the (on eberspachers at least 12v to run 0v to stop) supply from the controller
