VED Changes - 705% Increase to NEW Motorhome On Road Tax

2020 Plate Motorhomes are set to see as apparently by a ruling in the European Parliament, the VED for a new motorhome will increase from £265 (PLG rate) to £2,135 – a 705% increase – plus there will be significant higher ongoing yearly tax costs (for a further five years).

Well the excuse from HMG is not really a genuine answer, but it is just taxing motorhomes in the same way as cars, which is fair enough (and I think is the real reason to discourage conversions post vehicle registration as that gets round the £40k value charge).
What will happen? simples for people with the right license ... get a van with a >3.5t GVW and instead of the high rate, you get the PHGV rate of £165 a year ;)

I never really read into this but wasn’t the change made to bring PVC and motorhomes into the same bracket as luxury car tax? Hard to argue they aren’t a luxury really but maybe should be a way to refund this for full timers as it is a home rather than luxury. Won’t happen thougH lol
