Fiat - why so many as new ?

So I went to the Motorhome show at NEC yesterday and it was very well attended.
I was surprised though by the amount of manufacturers that use Fiat as the base vehicle. This was overwhelmingly the majority in the under 3500KG range. Less so in over the weight category though.

Why are Fiat so popular as base vehicles nowadays?

Quite simply because they give manufacturers the best deals, but in truth it doesn't matter if it is a Fiat, Citroen or Peugeot as they are all the same vans coming down exactly the same production line in Italy, the only difference at times being that Fiat will fit a different engine to the PSA brands.

As for these vans or in particular Fiat being so popular, as a panel van they give the squarest, widest and most easy body to modify and as a cab only that is then fitted with an ALCO or similar extended chassis it all comes down to the fact of the large numbers produced which in turn results in far lower prices.
