  1. Food Storage

Ok so being grounded for lockdown means we have rethought our water storage and decided that plastic Jerry can (the french have a word for these containers but for the life of me can’t think of an English one!) type containers were better for our style of camping. So the expensive 70l Fiamma...
  2. Food Storage

Glad I don't live with him! but does make you think about using space more wisely and to suit what you use.
  3. Food Storage

I like the idea of a drawer but I think we have decided that at some point we will take out the fiamma tank and go back to plastic jerry can type containers. Our van:
  4. Food Storage

Not sure about the drainpipe ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but we are considering going back to water containers under the bed which is what we had in our last van. in the meantime I have found these for putting some basics in the back (as suggested by Wildebus) and keeping just everyday stuff and breakfast food...
  5. Food Storage

I think if something has to go into the garage it will have to be the food as I'm usually dressed when looking for food so makes it easier to go round to the back of the van 😄
  6. Food Storage

Mmm This was our first plan but it fitted so easily into the cupboard and made plumbing easier that it sort of happened and now we are stuck with it - at least for now!
  7. Food Storage

I don't think that we have really got the storage in our latest van sorted. We don't seem to have enough storage room for food as we ended up putting a 70l water tank in the kitchen cupboard. I am thinking that we are going to have to keep most of our food in the garage. Anyone else do this...
  8. Solar project anyone?

There will be that one day that you forget to close it up and drive off!
  9. Compost toilet review

We use bio degradable bags they are not plastic but made of vegetable starch
  10. Compost toilet review

Mistericeman Coffee grounds? Not heard of using these but i'm interested.
  11. Compost toilet review

I understand the reservations, I was a sceptic myself. I was worried about smells and flies and uncleanliness but none of them were realized. It turned out to be very clean and non smelly. The pee pot does need emptying regularly but being only pee that was easily done. It means we can be...
  12. Compost toilet review

You don't have to use their containers any good quality container that fits would do the same job. I would imagine that a modesty cover is just a lid, easy enough to make if you wanted one. The bit you really need is the separating seat I think. I am sooo happy never to have to empty a porta...
  13. Compost toilet review

We used the kildwick separator and containers and put it under a seat with a tiny computer fan.
  14. Compost toilet review

We decided to put a composting toilet in our new van - but I was dubious and I hung on to our thetford cube just in case. Some raved about composting loos, some hated them! I know that I hate bad smells or 'background' smells and even a hint of 'composting' would put me off. We have a...
  15. EEeK!!

My concern is not just the cold because as you say it is possible to heat a cold space, but also the heat. It was always possible to keep our old van cool, how do you do this if it’s always going to be the same temperature as the air outside?
  16. EEeK!!

I agree unfortunately we assumed this had been done🤦🏻‍♀️(Lesson learnt). We are thinking rip out everything to bed/waist height and at least do up and over the ceiling and the floor properly. 😩
  17. EEeK!!

We have a diesel heater and I guess we will have to get used to using it more than we are used to. Never had to use it much in the old van as I said because it never got really cold at night in the van.
  18. EEeK!!

We were never cold in our old van and used it in colder weather than Christmas this year. I would expect a layer of solid insulation like celotex or kingspan or if the budget stretches aerogel .
  19. EEeK!!

Are you sitting comfortably then I will begin: We had decided to trade in our much loved transit for a high top van. We don't have a drive or anywhere to work off the road so when a friend said that she knew of a van for sale that someone had started but had to abandon because of illness we...
  20. Camp Quirky 2020
