Possible Iveco Could be a Good Starter Base for New Build

I was watching an item on EBAY as a base vehicle before I bought the Talbot
The seller has been let down and is offering the Van for sale once again, he says he will take £1800 for it
This is what he has written to me:
"Hi Robert.
Due to circumstances beyond my control, the van is once again for sale. In a nutshell; it needs welding underneath. I dropped it off at the garage and they just left it stood for 10 whole days, without even starting it! The prospective buyer says he no longer has the time to spare and will have to buy a finished van somewhere. The bottom line is this: I am prepared to sell the van as it is, with all the interior fittings including shower set and fridge, plus two burner ring and sink unit etc. for £1800 just to get it out of my way. I don't have the time and so, I'm looking for someone who is prepared to take it at that price, no less. The windows alone that are in cost over £1,000 without the cost of fitting them so, it's got to be a bargain for the right person/persons? I'm letting you know this before I list it which, might be later today or, tomorrow at the latest. It's still MOT'd until May 19th so, can be driven no problem."

NB I CAN NOT VOUCH FOR THE CONDITION OF THE VAN OR THE SELLER

This is the van for sale:

This may be a good buy, if anyone buys it then I would be interested in how you get along

Cheers
Robert

PS NB, AS STATED before, I CAN NOT VOUCH FOR THE CONDITION OF THE VAN OR THE SELLER

It sounds like a decent base for a project for someone who can - or has a contact who can - do the required welding. I'd be tempted myself if it were 200 miles further south where I could get a welding shop to fix it for free ;)

I have a friend who is a welder and would probably do it for very little money - would be tempted myself if I hadn't bought the Talbot but I don't think it would fit on my drive (1st World Problem !)

Robert; looking through all the past MOT history for this van it doesn't show any data which would reflect the onset of the dreaded tin eating monster, so are you sure it needs welding?

The windows and rooflight look as though they have been done properly.

My big question would be with regards to the shower tray and its installation. This is an item that so many people make the dreadful mistake of not installing it properly and they then live to regret it in the months and years to come. A shower tray MUST have a fully supporting tray that it sits into so as to 100% ensure there is no flexing of the plastic which with time can result in cracks. The construction of my shower tray took almost as long as it took me to build the framework for all of the cupboards in Millie!!

So, if it were me and knowing what I know about building a van and knowing what a stonking good base vehicle an IVECO is, I would go for it, but surely Robert you have only recently bought your museum piece of a Talbot, so aren't you possibly being a tad impulsive?

Hiya Phil

Yes I am not going to buy it, as I have the Talbot....Yes getting close to being a museum piece, and perhaps not such a good buy. Might get through MOT before Bristish Summer Commences in earnest and flip it for the summer and go on a break somewhere warm and think about my campervan life.
There are headaches arising with the Van as I go into it which is sad....

Cheers
Robert
